It’s like finally, the official release date of WordPress 5.0 has been announced on WordPress.org.
According to Gary Pendergast, the poetry writer of Automattic, the proposed release date of WordPress 5.0 is scheduled on 19th November 2018. However, the release has been postponed to 8 days later. Thus, everyone can expect to see the important and the biggest update latest on 27th November 2018!
Nonetheless, there are also sources that indicate if things do not go smoothly as scheduled, they will postpone the release to next year, 22 January 2019.
Before this, the CEO and founder of WordPress, Matt Mullenweg has also revealed that the release candidate (RC) is just in about a month in WordPress community. In that post, we get to know the developer team working behind WordPress 5.0 and Gutenberg editor.
After 15 years, the WordPress version has came to 5.0 and the biggest changes we can see in WordPress 5.0 or in the entire WordPress history would be the editor. Although the current TinyMCE editor has not been experiencing much changes over the years, everyone is still in love with it.
However, due to the content creation trend and habits, perhaps it’s time for a change.
The new editor, Gutenberg was developed and introduced by Matt Mullenweg at WordCamp Europe 2017. The arrival of Gutenberg aims to provide WordPress users an easier and more modern way of creating, editing and writing content — something rather similar to some of the most famous third party drag-and drop editors, such as Visual Composer and Divi.
The first term you have to know about Gutenberg is ‘blocks. In Gutenberg, every element is a ‘block’, including images, texts, headings, custom codes, embeds, videos, separators, etc. You can even input a button in your post without any coding. With Gutenberg, you can drag and drop each block, determine the content and define the specification for every single block.
In others words, you should be aware that Gutenberg editor will totally change your WordPress experience with different interface. If you don’t, check out this article to get a brief idea of what Gutenberg is about.
